Amazfit Helio Ring 2 Patent Reveals ECG and Body Composition Tracking from a Single Ring
A Huami patent published July 30 describes the next-generation Amazfit Helio Ring with dual large electrodes capable of single-lead ECG, bioelectrical impedance analysis (BIA) for body composition, electrodermal activity (EDA), and skin temperature — all from the same two contact surfaces. Zepp Health has confirmed an H2 2026 launch for the next Helio Ring. No smart ring currently offers ECG or body composition without a subscription.

A Huami patent published July 30 reveals the next-generation Amazfit Helio Ring with capabilities no current smart ring offers: single-lead ECG, body composition via bioelectrical impedance analysis (BIA), and electrodermal activity (EDA) — all from a single ring on one finger.
How It Works
The patent describes a ring with two large contact electrodes that serve multiple functions. When worn normally, the electrodes continuously measure heart rate, skin temperature, and EDA. When the wearer touches the ring{"'"}s outer electrode with a finger from the opposite hand, the circuit completes for ECG recording and BIA body composition measurement — similar to how smartwatches like the Apple Watch perform ECG readings.
The same electrodes also double as charging contacts when the ring sits in its case, eliminating the need for separate charging pins and freeing internal space.
Why This Matters
- ECG from a ring: No consumer smart ring currently offers ECG monitoring. The Oura Ring 5 and Samsung Galaxy Ring both lack ECG
- Body composition: BIA from a ring would be a first — currently only smartwatches like the Galaxy Watch offer this
- No subscription: Amazfit{"'"}s current Helio Ring is subscription-free, and the company has maintained this approach across its product line
When to Expect It
Zepp Health has confirmed an H2 2026 launch for the next Helio Ring, but patents don{"'"}t guarantee features will ship. The current Amazfit Helio Ring sells for $149 on Amazon — significantly cheaper than Oura{"'"}s $399 Ring 5 or Samsung{"'"}s $400 Galaxy Ring.
Should You Wait?
If ECG and body composition are important to you, waiting for the Helio Ring 2 announcement makes sense. If you need a smart ring now, the Oura Ring 5 at $399 remains the best overall pick, while the RingConn Gen 2 at $299 is the best value without a subscription. Compare all smart rings.
