Garmin Revives Fenix 6 with First Update in 18 Months: Beta 29.02 Fixes Race Predictor Bug

Garmin has returned to the Fenix 6 with its first software update in roughly 18 months. Beta firmware 29.02, published through Garmin's public beta program on October 2, 2026, resolves a Race Predictor bug that has plagued older flagship watches since summer 2026.

The Race Predictor Bug

• Wildly inaccurate predictions: Some users saw predicted 5K times drop from ~27 minutes to ~18 minutes overnight after recording an activity
• Widespread reports: Affected Fenix 6, original Enduro, Tactix Delta, Quatix 6, and first-gen MARQ models
• Summer 2026 onset: Reports started appearing during summer, likely triggered by a server-side change

Watches Covered

Beta 29.02 is available for the Fenix 6 series, Enduro (1st gen), Tactix Delta, Quatix 6, and MARQ (1st gen). Users can opt into the Garmin Beta Program to receive the update now, or wait for a stable release.

Should Fenix 6 Owners Upgrade?

If your Race Predictor data matters to your training, this beta is worth trying. However, the Fenix 6 is now four years old, and Garmin's Fenix 9 launched in August 2026 with significantly better hardware. With Prime Big Deal Days offering Garmin discounts up to 45%, it may be a good time to upgrade. Compare current options in our smartwatch guide.
