GPS: The Standout Feature

DC Rainmaker called the GPS accuracy improvement "transformative," noting it turns a "meh-good-enough" track into a "holy-crap-perfect" one. Google claims 2x accuracy in challenging urban environments by compensating for buildings and weather in real-time. The hardware (dual-frequency GPS with Galileo, GLONASS, BeiDou, QZSS, NavIC) is largely unchanged from Pixel Watch 4 — the gains are software-driven.

Health Guardian Suite

The new Health Guardian package bundles loss-of-pulse detection, respiratory distress monitoring, irregular rhythm notifications, and high/low heart rate alerts into a unified safety net. Two new preventative features — monthly blood pressure trends and insulin resistance trends — generate reports from sensor data, though neither replaces clinical testing.

The Gemini Problem

Every reviewer flagged the same issue: Gemini Intelligence features are deferred to "later in 2026." The doubled RAM (3GB) and storage (64GB) were pitched as enabling on-device AI, but at launch, the Pixel Watch 5 ships without its headline software feature. The AI Workout Builder and Proactive Suggestions are available, but the deeper Gemini integration is not.
