Samsung is working on a radical new type of earbud. Firmware analysis of One UI has revealed the Galaxy Buds Able — clip-on earbuds that use bone conduction technology instead of traditional speakers, promising an open-ear experience with zero sound leakage.
How They Work
- Bone conduction: Sound is delivered through vibrations against your skull, bypassing the eardrum entirely — no ear tips, no ear canal blockage
- Clip-on design: The earbuds hook onto the outer ear, similar to the Bose Ultra Open Earbuds and Huawei FreeClip
- Zero sound leakage: Samsung claims the vibration-based delivery prevents the audio bleed that plagues most open-ear designs
Launch Timeline
Despite appearing in One UI firmware, the Galaxy Buds Able have reportedly been delayed multiple times and are not expected at Galaxy Unpacked in July 2026. A late 2026 or early 2027 launch is more likely. Samsung may be waiting for the technology to mature before committing to a release date.
What This Means for Buyers
If you want open-ear earbuds today, the Bose Ultra Open Earbuds remain the category leader. For traditional noise-cancelling earbuds, the Galaxy Buds 3 Pro at $132 on Amazon or the AirPods Pro 3 at $199 are stronger buys right now. Don't wait for the Buds Able — there's no confirmed launch date. Compare all earbuds in our earbuds comparison.
