The announcement came during Galaxy Unpacked on July 22, and the feature will roll out this fall via a software update to existing Galaxy Ring hardware.

How It Works

The Galaxy Ring uses its existing SpO2 sensor and accelerometer to monitor blood oxygen levels and movement patterns during sleep. After calibrating over several nights, the ring can detect breathing disturbances consistent with obstructive sleep apnea. If signs are detected, users receive an alert in their morning health report with guidance on seeking further medical review.

Importantly, this is a screening tool, not a diagnostic device. The FDA clearance allows Samsung to market it as capable of detecting potential sleep apnea risk, but users should see a doctor for a confirmed diagnosis.
