Nearly 60 official press images of Samsung Galaxy Watch 9 and Galaxy Watch Ultra 2 bands have surfaced ahead of July 22 Unpacked, revealing six distinct band categories — from rugged trail straps to hybrid leather designs. But there's a catch that buyers need to know about.
The Band Lineup
- Sport Band: Available for both Watch 9 and Ultra 2 in Black, Cream, Green, Light Blue, and Orange
- Marine Band: Ultra 2 exclusive in Beige, Black, Blue, Green, and Orange — designed for water sports
- Trail Band: Ultra 2 exclusive in Black, Blue, and Orange — lightweight and breathable for hiking
- Hybrid Band: Leather-look with workout-friendly materials in Beige, Black, Brown, and Gray for both watches
- Fabric Band: Casual woven design for Watch 9 in multiple neutral tones
- Link Bracelet: Metal option for Watch 9 in Silver and Black
The Compatibility Problem
Samsung is drawing a hard line between its two watch lines. Ultra 2 bands carry visible "Ultra" branding with an orange outline near the strap end and use a different connector than Watch 9 bands. This means your existing Galaxy Watch bands won't work with the Ultra 2, and Ultra 2 bands won't fit the Watch 9. It's a move Apple made years ago with Apple Watch Ultra, and Samsung is now following suit.
What This Means for Buyers
If you're considering the Galaxy Watch Ultra 2, factor in band costs — Samsung typically prices first-party bands at $49–$99 each. The Apple Watch Ultra 3 at $640 uses the same bands as previous Ultra models, giving it a compatibility advantage. For Watch 9 buyers, existing Galaxy Watch bands should still work.
