Samsung Galaxy XR Gets Major Update: PC Connect, Likeness Avatars, and Enhanced Travel Mode

Samsung and Google have released a major Android XR update for the Galaxy XR headset, introducing three features designed to make the device more practical for everyday use: PC Connect, Likeness avatars, and enhanced Travel Mode.

PC Connect

PC Connect lets Galaxy XR wirelessly stream a Windows desktop into the headset, creating a virtual multi-monitor workspace. This mirrors Apple Vision Pro's Mac Virtual Display feature and brings the Galaxy XR closer to being a genuine productivity tool — not just a media consumption device.

Likeness Avatars

The new Likeness system uses the Galaxy XR's face-tracking cameras to generate realistic avatars that mirror the wearer's facial expressions in real time during video calls. Samsung calls this the "most expressive avatar system on any XR headset" — a direct shot at Apple's Personas feature.

Enhanced Travel Mode

Travel Mode now supports improved motion stabilization, letting users watch movies on a large virtual screen or work on presentations during flights without motion sickness or visual drift. The feature uses the headset's accelerometer and gyroscope to keep virtual content locked in place even during turbulence.

What This Means for Buyers

This update significantly narrows the gap between Galaxy XR and Apple Vision Pro — especially for productivity use cases. At its current price, the Galaxy XR now offers PC desktop streaming, realistic avatars, and in-flight entertainment.
