Bose Announces $199 Sport Open and $299 Ultra Open 2nd Gen Earbuds

Bose is going all-in on open-ear. The audio giant announced two new open earbuds on September 17: the fitness-focused Sport Open Earbuds ($199) and the upgraded Ultra Open Earbuds 2nd Gen ($299). Both pre-order September 19 and ship October 1.

Sport Open Earbuds ($199)

• IP54 rating for sweat, water splashes, and dust resistance
• 7 hours of battery life (22 hours with charging case)
• Textured physical buttons for easier workout control
• Lightweight, cuff-shaped design that hooks around the ear

Ultra Open Earbuds 2nd Gen ($299)

• New driver designed to deepen bass and increase volume — addressing the two biggest open-earbud weak points
• 9 hours of battery life (up from the original)
• Wireless charging case — a first for the Ultra Open line
• Lower audio latency for video and gaming

Why Open-Ear Matters

Open earbuds let you hear your surroundings while listening to audio — ideal for running, cycling, and office use. Bose is competing with the Shokz OpenFit 2 ($135) and a growing field of open-ear options. The trade-off: no ANC, and sound leakage at high volumes.

Should You Pre-Order?
