Meta Luna: Camera-Free Smart Glasses in Two Designs Expected at Connect Next Week

Meta is going camera-free. Multiple reports from The Information and The Verge reveal that Meta is preparing a new smart glasses line codenamed Luna that deliberately omits a camera — a move designed to address the privacy backlash that has dogged camera-equipped wearables.

What Luna Includes

• Six built-in microphones for voice pickup and ambient awareness
• Directional speakers pointed toward the wearer's ears
• One-button Meta AI access on the temple arm
• Two frame designs: Clubmaster (retro browline) and Burbank (modern rectangular)

Why No Camera?

The camera-free design lets Meta use slimmer temple arms that look closer to conventional eyewear. It also removes the biggest social barrier — the fear of being recorded — making Luna viable for workplaces, schools, and public spaces where camera glasses face restrictions or outright bans.

Launch Timeline

Luna is expected to be unveiled at Meta Connect on September 23-24 in Menlo Park, with shipments targeted for October 2026. Pricing has not been confirmed, but Meta's recently launched Meta Glasses (with cameras) start at $299, suggesting Luna could be priced at or below that level.
