Just months after we reported leaked specs for a Samsung Galaxy Ring 2, new reports from TechRadar suggest the sequel may have been quietly shelved. Two factors are driving the uncertainty: disappointing first-generation sales and the shadow of Oura's patent war across the smart ring industry.
The Patent Problem
Oura has been on an aggressive litigation campaign — it already secured a ban on Ultrahuman's Ring Air in the US last October, and has active lawsuits against Samsung, RingConn, Reebok, Circular, and others. Sources indicate Samsung's legal team has advised caution about investing heavily in a second-generation ring while ITC proceedings are pending.
Sales Concerns
Samsung's Galaxy Ring launched last year to strong early reviews but reportedly saw sales slow significantly after the first quarter. Samsung Health integration — the ring's main differentiator — wasn't compelling enough to pull users away from the Oura Ring Gen 4's deeper health insights.
What This Means for Buyers
If Samsung does pause Galaxy Ring development, it removes one of the main ecosystem reasons to choose Android's flagship ring. For Samsung phone users shopping for a smart ring, the choice becomes Oura Gen 4 or waiting to see how the patent landscape shakes out. See our smart ring comparison for the full picture.
