Snap Specs $2,195 AR Glasses: September 16 Launch Event in Los Angeles Will Show AI, Work Tools, and Shared AR Experiences

Snap has confirmed a launch event on September 16 at 7PM ET in Los Angeles for its $2,195 Specs AR glasses. CEO Evan Spiegel will personally demo the standalone augmented reality glasses, with a livestream available for those who can't attend in person.

What Snap Will Show

The event will focus on four key areas: AI assistance integrated directly into the AR display, virtual workspaces for productivity use cases, entertainment experiences, and shared AR — where multiple Specs wearers can see and interact with the same virtual objects in real space. This last feature is something no competitor currently offers at the consumer level.

Hardware Overview

Unlike the AI-assistant-focused glasses from Meta, Snap Specs are a full standalone AR device. They feature two Snapdragon processors working in tandem, hand and eye tracking for natural interaction, and transparent AR displays that overlay digital content onto the real world. No phone tethering is required for core functionality.

Pricing and Availability

At $2,195, Specs occupy an entirely different market segment than the Meta Ray-Ban smart glasses at $299. While Meta's glasses focus on AI assistance, camera capture, and audio in a lightweight everyday frame, Snap's Specs deliver true spatial computing with AR overlays. Pre-orders are open now, with shipping planned for fall 2026 in the US, UK, and France.
