Snap Specs Event Recap: Cellular Model, Intelligence App, and October Demos Announced

Snap delivered on its biggest hardware event yet. The September 16 launch in Los Angeles gave attendees the first public hands-on with the $2,195 SPECS standalone AR glasses, and CEO Evan Spiegel used the keynote — titled "Making Computing More Human" — to announce two significant additions to the product line.

Cellular Variant Confirmed

Snap announced a cellular-equipped version of SPECS that will ship alongside the Wi-Fi model. The cellular variant uses an eSIM for always-on connectivity, removing the need for a phone tether even outdoors. Pricing for the cellular model has not yet been disclosed.

Specs Intelligence App

A new companion app called Specs Intelligence is coming to iPhone and Mac. The app lets users manage Lenses, review captured AR content, and interact with SPECS's AI assistant from their phone. It bridges the gap between the standalone glasses and your existing devices.

Hands-On Demo Experience

Starting October 1, Snap is opening a hands-on demo at Westfield Century City in Los Angeles where anyone can try SPECS before buying. The experience includes a curated Harry Potter AR Lens where users receive a Hogwarts acceptance letter via AR owl, pick a wand, and practice spells.

Hardware Impressions

Attendees noted the glasses are still "pretty chunky" but noticeably sleeker than the developer edition available since June. The two Qualcomm Snapdragon processors deliver smooth hand and eye tracking, and the standalone operation — no phone required — impressed early testers. Battery life remains rated at up to four hours of mixed use.

Should You Pre-Order?
